Laura Di Falco became a successful writer with her first book, Fear of the day (Mondadori, 1954), which was a huge success with audiences and critics. Courted by major Italian publishers she also published with Rizzoli and Feltrinelli. She was a finalist of the prestigious Strega Prize in 1976 with L’inferriata, sponsored by Nobel laureate Eugenio Montale. VerbaVolant Edizioni in Italy is reissuing a number of her works.
